COLDBREW SUPPORT

A little help.

Mac version 1.1 adds optional closed-lid sessions. Get the update ↗

Close the lid. Keep going.

  1. Open ColdBrew and choose your session duration.
  2. Turn on Keep awake with lid closed.
  3. Start Session, then close your laptop’s lid.

The option starts off each time you launch ColdBrew. Compatibility varies by Mac model and macOS version. Use a hard, ventilated surface. Stop the session before putting your laptop in a bag.

While unplugged, closed-lid sessions stop at 20% battery or your selected higher cutoff. Version 1.0 still requires the lid to stay open.

Start, stop, and choose a duration

Choose Minutes, Hours, or Indefinitely, then Start Session. Timed sessions allow up to 24 hours; +15 minutes adds time up to that limit. Use Stop Session when you’re done. Quitting ColdBrew also releases its keep-awake request. Closing its window or menu does not end a session.

Use “Mac only” to let the display sleep, or “Mac + display” to keep both awake. Closed-lid sessions are a separate option. Normal screen-lock settings remain available.

Why did my session stop?

Check Activity for the reason. A session ends when its timer finishes, it reaches your battery cutoff, or your Mac reports serious or critical thermal pressure. Closed-lid sessions also end if their helper stops or required monitoring becomes unavailable.

Manual sleep, shutdown, and macOS safety behavior can interrupt a session. ColdBrew does not automatically restart a session after system sleep.

Restore normal sleep after a closed-lid session

If ColdBrew says sleep restoration needs attention, use the retry control it provides. If you forcibly quit both ColdBrew and its helper, the closed-lid setting may remain active. Relaunch ColdBrew for recovery, or restart your Mac.

Confirm normal sleep has returned before putting your laptop in a bag. Another app may also keep your Mac awake.

Sounds, quiet hours, and appearance

In Settings, enable Play ColdBrew sounds and choose your cues and volume. Quiet hours silence automatic sounds during your chosen daily window. The initial schedule is 10 PM–8 AM; equal times mean silent all day. Preview buttons intentionally play during quiet hours, unless volume is zero or your Mac is muted.

Choose Follow Mac, Light, or Dark. To switch appearance automatically, use Follow Mac and select Auto in macOS Appearance. Quiet hours and appearance work independently.

Set up iPhone battery alerts

Install ColdBrew Awake on both devices and use the same Apple Account for iCloud. Enable iPhone alerts in the Mac app’s Settings. Connect with iCloud on the phone, allow notifications, and save your alert settings. Choose Send test alert on your Mac to check the connection.

Your Mac must be awake, online, and running ColdBrew; a keep-awake session does not need to be active. Reminders trigger at 20% or below while unplugged, once until the battery recharges to 25%. A sleeping or powered-off Mac cannot send new alerts.

Phone notification, sound, and Focus settings apply. Delivery can be delayed or missed. The iPhone companion does not remotely start sessions. Website demos send no real alerts.

Open or dismiss the menu

Click the eye in your menu bar. Click it again, click outside, press Escape, or use the close button to dismiss the quick menu. A running session stays active.
